plastic surgery.

well, I have been having a few thoughts running through my head lately.  I have even brought this up to my husband.

I want to get my boobs done.

Well, I'm currently sitting at 38DD's (technically an E but good luck finding that bra at Walmart) and while my hubby loves it (he's a boob man) I know that I don't have the biggest boobs on the planet I definitely don't want them to go away.  After all, breasts are designed not only to feed a child, but to attract a mate.  Well, mine was attracted to several things on me, my boobs being one of them.  I want to KEEP him attracted to me and if that means getting a little work done on my chest, so be it.

Now, as I'm losing weight, I know that my boobs are going to shrink.  just a fact of life.  and I know I'm not doing anything until after I'm done having children.  Nursing them is more important than my vanity.  for my friends that eat raw, and believe in all things natural my question is this:

Would you recommend it?  Would you alter your body to please yourself even though there could be complications and dangers?  Would you do that to your body or would you stay with the body that you had even if you weren't comfortable with it?

10 lb mark!

I'm down to 241.5  This is just under my 10 lb mark.  I'm super excited because in just over a week this happened AND I was no where near 100% raw.  In fact, I was under 50% most of the time.   Now, some of you might be looking at the numbers and going "so what?  241.5 is still fat"  yes, it is, but EVERYONE is at a different journey and this is mine.  I have no shame in where I am as long as I'm on the path I should be.

I started out this week not really eating much.  I guess I fasted for a couple days because I wasn't in the mood to eat.  I took in some water, but I REALLY listened to my body this week.  I didn't bother eating when I wasn't hungry but I did keep myself hydrated.  My body was really thrown off by this, as I was tired for a while, but I did get plenty of sleep.  (my hubby put me in bed by 7:45 last night!)  My body was regenerating and healing itself.  It wasn't putting forth the effort to digest foods and took that energy to heal itself.

tomorrow I go 100% raw.  I'm eating about 85% today.  I forgive myself in advance if I "slip up".

My ultimate goal:  120 lbs.  I will take pics at every 10 lb mark.  I will document myself through pictures and blogging.  I'm pretty excited!

Don'tcha wish your GF was RAW like me?

so, listening to the Pussy Cat Dolls over and over in my head- that line keeps making me smile because it means something totally different for those of us who know the joys of raw food.

This is a particularly hard time of year for me.  So much junkfood in easy access, sugar eyes staring back at me from solid chocolate bunnies; peanut butter beconing me from the shelves, and those delicious but absolutely horrid for you little eggs made by the company that sounds like they're snooty english toffee company.

So, what gets me though this are just a few simple "rules".  it's not about what I CAN'T have, it's what I CAN have.   I can have: coconut, peanut butter, almond butter, chocolate, agave, figs, dates, all sorts of yummy raw foods!  Cashews to make cheesecake with and make some amazing ice cream.  Strawberries to cover in chocolate, avacado mousse with vanilla creme.  LOADS of goodies that I'm gonna eat!  (pssst!  They're not only good for me, I will most likely L-O-S-E weight from it!!!)

for example, coconut is one of my favorite flavors.  So, when I blend cashews, coconut oil agave nectar and the slightest bit of water with some dried coconut, I can make my own "cups" with a frozen liquid chocolate, and it makes for an instant and HEALTHY alternative to the sugary coconut laden goo that would clog my arteries for years while giving me visceral pleasure on my tongue for just a few seconds.  same goes with almond butter cups (better IMHO than peanut butter, though they're awesome too).

as for chocolate bunnies- what's wrong with using a liquid chocolate in a mold and freeze it?  nada.

So, now that I'm raw, I wonder what I'm going to do for my children for easter.  I don't want to give them a sugar addiction to commemorate the resurrection of our Lord- sigh.  what to do?  OH WAIT!  I know.... yay, raw desserts!

Well, I'm going to come up with some yummy treats and they'll go into my recipe book- it's going to be fabulous! :D  BOLO for a SUPER yummy book coming soon! :)

allergies and what I can/can't have.

So years ago I got tested for a food allergy that I have.  Apparently I'm allergic to seafood, not just shellfish.  Well, the doctor that I got tested by (a morbidly obese man who had a myriad of health problems and addictions himself telling me what I need to do to get healthy!) said "well we tested you for both seafood and shellfish and you're allergic to both, so don't eat seaweed because I would guess that you're allergic to that too."

being younger and stupider (yes it's actually a word) I took his advice, after all- he went to med school, he knows, right?  Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

well the other day, I made a smoothie that I added spirulina to.  spirulina is a blue-green microalgae that has numerous health benefits and is from ancient times.  The aztecs would use ropes to harvest it and dry it into square cakes and use it for nutritional supplement.   It's a complete protein and in it's dried form, has about 55% in it.  It also totes potassium, calcium, copper, chromium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, sodium, and zinc

good stuff.

Not to mention, spirulina inhibits HIV replication in human T-cells.  It also helps protect against hay fever.  All around, good food.

Now, I added 1/4 tsp to a smoothie that I made 3 quarts of and I didnt' have a reaction so I will try more. today. :)    **** I'm running short on time, but I will post more in a little while on this subject.***

down with the lbs.

Well, I stepped on the scale- down 3 lbs since yesterday morning.  I weighed myself when I got up yesterday and cried.  250.5 is depressing.  Yes, I know that there are people at a much higher number, but this is me.  this is MY number, and it hits home and it hits home hard!  Well, after my bout of anguish yesterday I got up, and fasted for the morning.  I made myself that parfait (which I could only get through the first few bites of it was so rich!) and put it in the fridge to eat it today.  Well, I ate a not-so-good-for-you dinner (sloppy joes.. ::happy drool!::) which I have decided that I'm going to make up a raw version of and all was "ok" with my world, except I was exhausted at 8 pm.

Well, I've been up since 4 and my tuchus will be on a spring cleaning jag today.  windows open, dust shaken from the mats, and EVERY dish in the house done.

So meals planned for today:
celery spinach blue berry strawberry smoothie for breakfast (about a quart to suck on for the better part of the morning)  Planning on having my mousse later in the day.
snack:  carrots with some garlic cheesy cauliflower dip
lunch:  kale peach blackberry smoothie (a little agave and spirulina - OH!  check out my next blog; allergies)
snack:  parfait.
dinner: ?  haven't decided.  maybe something not raw.  maybe raw tacos.  Maybe more cauliflower dip.  Will burn that bridge when I get there. :)

I'm also trying something- apparently digestion is better when there's sunlight out.  I will do more research into that and decide for myself if it's true or not, but again, when have I made a promise that I didn't deliver on?

hugs, and sitting at 247 this AM.  3.5 lbs down!  WOOHOO!  I'm STOKED; it's headed in the right direction. :D

Tell me this doesn't look good???

I made a chocolate mousse with a vanilla cashew cream and let me tell you- YUM!!! For some reason my mousse tastes a little like licorice. I think it may have been my avacados considering the vanilla, agave and cocoa have all been used before, even in teh vanilla cream.

I HIGHLY recommend you do something for yourself- go to the dollar store (I LIVE at the dollar tree!!) and get yourself some pretty glasses.  Do whatever you need to to make your dishes feel "pretty".  This is a daquari glass which I also use for smoothies and stuff.  It's kind of nice to sit in a hot bath and sip from a cold smoothie with a steel drum playing on the CD player!

Well, I think this is absolutely the best dessert ever.  and the coolest thing is this is for ANY meal of the day, not just dessert!  I think I will cover it in plastic, store it in the fridge and eat it for breakfast tomorrow.

Recipes are coming, I'll give you sneak peaks because I've decided I'm making up an uncooked book.  title and recipes are tba.

Dessert-o-rama!

This one's for the girls- and you KNOW you're with me when you're about to start you NEED that chocolate covered salt lick.

So, yesterday I made myself some chia seed pudding.  I got the chia seeds at whole foods' (whole body version) in their bulk section.  It was REALLY good!

1 cup cashews - soaked

Dash of vanilla
Honey or agave nectar
pinch of sea salt
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 cup chia seeds

blend everything but chia seeds in blender until smooth.
add to chia seeds in a medium sized bowl.

If you're worried about sweetness of agave or honey, do it to taste.  a few tablespoons should do it.

Vanilla cream with strawberries:
1 c. cashews soaked for 1 hour, rinsed and drained.
1/4c. agave
1/2 vanilla bean or few dashes of vanilla extract
1/4-1/2 c. water (or more depending on what you need)
2 tablespoons warmed coconut oil

put all but water into blender or food processor.  Blend until thick and creamy.

Glazed strawberries
slice fresh strawberries and toss in a few tablespoons of agave nectar.

Layer vanilla cream  and strawberries alternately in a glass.  top with sliced strawberry.
** can add raw granola for crunch.
*** can also make the same cream with almonds and almond extract.
**** use any fruit you want.

raw reeses cups  I'm going to make these and come up with a chocolate explosion blog in a little while.  I have another blog to post on my smart savvy homemaker diva blog and then I will do that!  hugs!

I'm thinking about writing a raw food un-cook book.  it'll be the easiest way to get my happy butt making some recipes I really want to eat, huh??

I woke up feeling great!

So, I woke up feeling amazing, despite news I got last night.  My body feels healthier.  I did something very good for me yesterday.  It HAD to be the cauliflower.  Well, this morning, because I feel so much better I'm going to be making myself a smoothie.  I will be adding 1/4 teaspoon of either spirulina or kelp.  Why is this a big deal you ask?  well, I'm allergic to seafood, and the doctor told me that included seaweeds and even some hydroponically grown vegetables.  I don't know if conventional medicine just lumped it all in, but for years I've been carefully watching what I've put in my mouth, not realizing that it's been toxic for my system.  For example, I'd go for the "all natural" ice cream instead of the cheaper kind made with carageenan.

You should have seen Charlie's face when I told him what the kelp and spirulina were.  He about smacked it out of my hand!  He's worried about my health, and I don't blame him.  I worry about his too.

Well, I promised him I would start slow and if I felt any adverse reactions, I would call 911 immediately.  So, I'm thinking of adding just a small amount to test my system, and to see if it truly was the seaweed that was trying to kill me.  Should be fun if I AM truly allergic to what I was told I am.

Now, I SHOULD tell you that when the "test" was administered, it wasn't a scratch test- the seafood part was, but the doctor assumed the sea veggies were part of that.  I didn't doubt him, I was a lot younger and MUCH stupider then and was taught to always trust doctors advice.  apparently they're supposed to know what is best, and thinking back on it, why would I take advice from a chain smoking morbidly obese balding middle-aged man when it comes to my health???  Yeah, doesn't make sense to me now either.

Well, my green smoothie will consist of kale today, strawberries, peaches, 1/4 tsp spirulina 1/2 tsp beet powder, and water.  maybe a little agave- I'm still trying to transition to the flavors of veggies I'm not familiar with.

wish me luck and I'll probably get more cauliflower for lunch.  yum!

OMG, Alli is pissing me off!

okay, I'm going to bitch here for a minute, and at the risk of sounding like perez hilton I'm putting that warning up right up front.

Have you ever actually watched the newest commercial?  (I would have added a link right here, but I can't find the one I wanted.)  Well, the crap that they're spewing isn't just coming out of your butt this time!

We've become a politically correct society SO MUCH that the actual wording of the commerical is "You may be creating excess weight your body doesn't need."  in other words- your eating habits are making you fat!  WHAT is wrong with the word fat????  are we afraid we will offend someone?  TRUST me, fat people know they're fat.  they're not "excess weight" people.  We're not people who have more ounces than needed, it's fat.  FAT FAT FAT!  See, I said it!  It didnt' kill me.  If you're still reading this, you know that you're fat or you know someone who is.  It's not a dramatic thing, and offense while not meant to be given, is inevitable!  WHEN did we become a society where feelings are worth more than truth?  okay, rant over, keep reading.

so, the way alli works is it blocks some fat that your body takes in.  So basically it's like 1/4 fat blocking (I'm estimating from different reviews I've read).  Which means that double quarter pounder with cheese means you're getting only 3/4 of a double quarter pounder with cheese.  SERIOUSLY!?  why not just eat healthier?

I understand cravings- more than you know.  There are certain types of foods I'm addicted to, and I'm working on my issues with them, but damn- snarfing a pizza won't make the 1/4 that it blocks better for you!  NOT TO MENTION- it doesn't differentiate between good fats and bad fats.  it just sees the lipids and attacks them.  SO, if you took alli and only ate healthy fats that your body needs, you would block those and you would actually damage yourself because you don't get enough.

Did I mention the butt drainage?

Yes, ladies (as we are the primary demographic these pill peddlers push themselves to) you will have anal leakage if you eat more fat than these little pills will block.  In the paraphrased words of Jeff Foxworthy- "I don't care how cute you are in those jeans, you have anal seepage NO ONE will want to talk to you".  Seriously, who the hell wants to be at a bar, hitting on a guy, feeling totally confident and all of a sudden there's some slime in between your cheeks from the chimichanga platter you ate that afternoon? mmm.  tap that.

Look, IMHO if you want to lose weight, LEARN to eat healthier.  Rome wasn't built in a day, neither was your FAT gain- oh sorry, must be PC.  'excess unnecessary weight'.  In my recommendation, I would go raw (oh wait!  I'm doign that! LOL, come join me- got some uber amounts of energy!!!) Take it slow and DO your research!  Pills are not the answer.

blessings, and thanks for listening to my rant.

make me some popcorn

and it didn't taste like popcorn.  Don't get me wrong- it was delicious, but it just wasn't popcorn-y.  I also tweaked the recipe since I'm not a big cayenne pepper kind of girl.  Check out his video demonstration on renegadehealth.com

So, Philip McClusky- thank you so much for the delicious recipe.  I can't wait to try it dehydrated.

1 head of cauliflower
nutritional yeast to taste
sea salt to taste
garlic powder to taste.

chop cauliflower, put in ziplock bag, add rest of ingredients.  Shake the bag, dance around, be happy.  Eat and enjoy!  I will probably dehydrate these and make them a little crunchier (hoping for pirate booty consistency, but will see.)

On a side note, these would be awesome with agave and cinnamon also.  make it like a caramel popcorn, dehydrating on teflex sheets until they're super crispy and sweet and perfect.

so, I'm happy to be raw again.  It takes very little to fill me up, my body knows it's fuller faster and there's no need for me to keep stuffing my face to try to get the nutrients that are void in the "foods" that are cooked anyway.

Well, I'm done with this particular blog.  OH!  aside from the fast that my 3 year old LOVES this- kids are awesome to get to eat raw; well my kids anyway.  They enjoy the smoothies and stuff that I make, so introducing then to new stuff, they tend to like it.  Judah adored the "popcorn" and it will definitely become a summer staple for us. :)

catcha on the flipside!

food addictions

I never realized how strong addictions were until I tried to break one.  Like any addiction, chemicals are released on your brain to make you want it more.  My parents have argued with me (my dad moreso than my mom) about cigarettes are more addictive than food.  I don't think so.  I think that food can be just as addictive.  I mean, you never heard someone after trying 1 cigarette go "that's positively sinful!  Ugh, if I don't get another one of these, I will absolutely die!".  What you DO hear is hacking, wheezing, gagging and usually friends laughing at you for not being able to hold it down.  cigarettes don't become addictive (IMHO) until you've had several.  I may be wrong on that, and if you have scientific proof, please post it.  I would be interested in learning more.

Back to addictions- SUGAR.  there are so many moments in any given day that I CRAVE sugar to the point where I would just make something bad for me, or reach for a premade (insert sugary, goopy snack here) brownie just to satisfy the craving and then cope with guilt for a few hours afterward.

WHATS UP WITH THAT???  It's like my mind isn't strong enough to conquer my body and then I feel regret, sorrow, and anger revoltion, fear, and even satisfaction in feeling that way because it's comfortable.

Well.... how do I break that?  do I need a life coach, or a "sponsor" like AA meetings?  can I tackle it on my own?  ugh I wish I knew.  Oh well.  Again, I will do research on it and see waht can be done about it.

chemical changes in your body.

Okay, so in my blog on 3/15 I promised that I would do research into how cooked foods alter our health and why the cells don't work properly. Here's what I've found so far.

Apparently it all breaks down to enzymes.  Enzymes in living (raw) foods are what keep our cells going.  Now, we can obviously eat a pizza but that pizza becomes part of our genetic makeup.  (not our DNA, but literally a part of ourselves) and it's not like you are a machine where you put a corn cob in the top, and a corn cob comes out teh bottom.... well, let's use another analogy, corn probably wasn't the best here.  An apple doesn't go in and come out whole.  Well, neither will the cheese curls we snarf.  our bodies break them down getting every molecule of nutrition we possibly can out of them.  If we're eating processed foods, (let's stick with cheese curls here) there is zero nutrition that our body can use.  No enzymes in them that our cells need to replenish themselves with.  As cells are living organisms themselves and are in a constant state of repair, reproduction and dying, they need living foods to replace themselves with healthy versions.

For those of us who have had kids, you want them to be healthier and not have the problems that you've had, right?  I mean, who wants to have to watch our children suffer- off topic, sorry.

according to rawfoodlife.com- cooking destroys all enzymes and nutrition.  This process is a chemical reaction that food takes when applied to heat (energy).  In fact, all things change when applied to this form of energy.  The food that we need to live is now being replaced with a toxin.  You can't breathe in smoke adn expect to be ok, this is the same with the byproduct of fire applied to your food.  It alters it in such a way that it then becomes bad for you.  SIMILAR to hydrogenated oils.  We take a perfectly good oil, force hydrogen into it, agitate it and that oil that once was semi healthy with living enzymes and a short shelf life, now becomes a chemical configuration of crap that can sit on your shelf for an indeterminate time for your convenience.  mmmm.  let's pump some of that through my arteries!

So, humans are the only animal in existance to cook their food.  (some monkeys smoke, but I digress...)  According to: jonbarron.org: Raw foods and enzymes

I've covered the issue of digestive enzymes many times before. Processing and cooking destroy enzymes in food. (Man is the only animal that cooks his food.) In fact, any sustained heat of approximately 118-129 degrees F (48-54 C) destroys virtually all enzymes. This means that, for most of us, the food entering our stomachs is devoid of enzymes. Why is this important? Because enzyme rich foods actually "predigest" in your stomach through the action of their own enzymes in a process called autolytic digestion. Before stomach acid enters the process, you can actually break down as much as 75% of your meal. Without that "autolytic" digestion, you force the body to compensate by over producing stomach acid and digestive enzymes in the pancreas in an attempt to break down the "dead" food.

The bottom line is that eating a diet of cooked and processed food puts incredible stress on the body -- particularly on the pancreas since it has to produce massive quantities of digestive enzymes since they did not come with the food itself. The less digestion that takes place before food reaches the small intestine, the greater the stress placed on the endocrine system. Is it any wonder that the incidence of diabetes is exploding in the developed world? If your diet consists of predominantly cooked and processed foods, then supplemental digestive enzymes are the "sine qua non" of minimal good health.

Eating a predominantly raw food diet, on the other hand, takes stress off the pancreas (and the entire body) by providing the enzymes required for digestion. It is one of the primary advantages of a raw food diet.
(the last 3 paragraphs were taken directly from his website)

Okay, so this makes sense- our pancreas has to work harder increasing the amounts of insulin produced, which leads to problems such as hypoglycemia (sp?) and diabetes.

Well, apparently cooking foods also releases free radicals into our bodies when we consume them. For those of us not in the know, free radicals are organic molecules that are responsible for tissue damage, aging (not gracefully!) and possibly some diseases. They're unstable molecules and so they need to connect with other molecules to give them structure. Kind of like a virus to a host. Viruses are no good without something to perpetrate them into growing, and that's how free radicals are. The reason they're not stable and are looking for other molecules is because they have an uneven number of electrons, and because nature is symetrical they have to have it to survive, but in attaching to your molecules, they leech off the good stuff that you need, making you weak. (think vinegar to an egg shell) Well, when they attach to your molecules, they destructure your cells, making you sick. Free radicals can be blamed for damaging your body, clogging your arteries, etc, HOWEVER you (and I) are to blame for putting them there. They can be increased by stress levels, cigarette smoking, alcohol and other factors but mainly from our food intake.

So, how do we fight free radicals? I'm so glad you asked! Antioxidants. antioxidants neutralize free radicals so they can no longer do harm to us. Antioxidants are found in the foods we eat. If cooking food causes free radicals, where can we find antioxidants- it's counterform raw food! In it's natural form, food is perfectly designed for our bodies to digest, process and so we can extract all nutrients possible to make our systems run as they should. Can't put dirty gas in a car and expect it to perform at it's peak.

Our bodies are designed (read my previous blogs to find out how I feel about that) to absorb maximum amounts of nutrition from minimal amounts of food when fed properly! This is why we feel full after a large salad (minimal calories vs quantity of food) instead of an entire bag of cheese puffs, or chips, or insert other deep fried processed junk food here.

Okay, so I went shopping today.

yowza! I went shopping and while everything I bought wasn't necessarily raw I only spent $170. Not bad for 4 people for two weeks. I am going to be making sevearl recipes today, hopefully for the next week or so. I found an amazing recipe for "popcorn" that Phillip McClusky made, it's supposed to be awesome. If you want the recipe I found it from renegadehealthshow.com. You can check them out on youtube also.

So, I apologize for not writing to you in Raw land since January. As soon as I wrote that blog, that very night my HP computer decided to crap out. I now have an acer and we will see how long this thing lasts. :) It's brand new, not refurb, so I'm rather excited about it! My man spoils me!!!

So, I haven't exactly been raw lately. I'm a little upset at myself for it, but I REFUSE to beat myself up too badly. Everyone is entitled to a slip up now and then, and we all know how often new years resolutions stick. I DO promise to give myself 100% though, because my body is worth taking care of, as yours is!

I'm also looking into exactly what happens to our cells when we eat cooked/ processed foods, and how the enzymes in living foods help us, etc.  I really want to know waht happens to our bodies and how they work.  Not just the feel-better aspect of raw, but the actual WHY it's better for us.

Well, another day another dollar!  Must go finish all that I was doing and prep for my guild meeting tonight!  Hugs and kisses everyone!

OH! - I've just started 2 more blogspot blogs.  Check me out at HeatherAndCharliesWedding.blogspot.com; all aobut my upcoming wedding, what's going on, how to get in touch with us, etc  and SSHdiva.blogspot.com; a smart, savvy homemaker diva blog, listing things you may want to know, or that can help you in your homemaking in the future!  LOADS of helpful hints, natural cleaning recipes, etc!!  see you there, adn become my stalkers! :)
