another day, another pound.

I miss my dehydrator. I wish I could have an extra one on hand, but unfortunately I can't, so my plan is in the next few weeks, I'm going to make as much "breads" and crackers and cookies as I can fit into the dehydrator, not to mention a few snacks, but I'm making it for a specific purpose.

See, I'm about to travel to my friend's house who is a straight steak and potatoes kind of guy. Well, that doesn't exactly jive well with a RAW diet, so the only thing I really need to worry about bringing is my blender.

So, I'm down another 1/2 lb as of this afternoon, and I'm sorry for not blogging earlier today. I still felt guilty over those chicken nuggets yesterday, but I'm doing MUCH better today. I need to get myself some frozen strawberries for more shakes tomorrow. I LOVE strawberries and just about any other fruit (except bananas, the bane of my existence) together, so I will make myself a smoothie tomorrow morning.

I will add some spinach again. I prefer it- yay greens. :D

Okay, well, this is day 8 (or 9 I have to double check) and I'm down 10.5 and I can already see the fat going. I'm digging it, and it's easier to pull the pants up. granted, I wear them a little tight anyway because my butt is not just butt, it's badonkadonk- so I can't find anything to fit in both my hips and waist.

227.5. WOOHOO! it's going down!

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

well, I broke down and snarfed 2 1/2 chicken nuggets. I did eat them with honey, and I had my smoothie.

that craving was WAY too great, but I'll be making my cookies in just a few minutes. I feel really guilty for eating them. Does that sound stupid? I was doing so well, but I feel my blood pressure rising from the sodium.

I feel like I'm a failure to not fight off the craving. What really suck is I still hungry. I could honetly eat about 4 more (large finger, not the mini one from whatever your fast food chain of choice is). I am really feeling guilty.

I've been bad.

No, I didn't cheat on the raw, but I what I did do was bad. I didn't eat enough. I had an apple for breakfast and that's it all day. I know, I know... bad me. I have made myself another smoothie with collard greens (yum!) and I've made myself some raw tacos.

I will suck down steady nutrition and after dinner I'm making myself some cookies. I deserve a treat today because I didn't cheat today. I could have though. Those chicken nuggets were calling my name- the ones you make at home because it's "healthier". killing me!

there's 3 left, and I desperately want to grab one- or all- but I'm going to eat dinner and not worry about it.

I will post my weigh in later tonight. for now: dinner. :)

hugs and blessings!

start of day 7

headache is gone for now, and I'm down another pound. I'm rather excited. 10 lbs (possibly more, will tell you in the evening) in 7 days. I can't believe I've lost so much so fast! Now, I know that doctors would tell you that it's not healthy to lose so much weight so fast, however they wouldn't write malnutrition on a death certificate in this country anymore either.

I notice that I am smelling food more. I consciously notice it more. for example, my parents are brewing coffee right now (no, I don't live with my parents, I'm visiting from my home 5 hours away) and I smell it and believe me, there are parts of me that want it desperately, but I want health more.

I'm thinking of recipes for upcoming Thanksgiving. I want to eat raw during the day, but being a newbie at this, I'm kind of concerned... especially considering I'm in charge of baking a turkey! Don't get me wrong, I'm a fabulous cook, and I do it well, I'm just concerned abotu eating and being tempted. I will scour the internet over the next few weeks, and test recipes so I can have a "normal" holiday and maybe even make Ani Phyo's apple pie. or my favorite a pumpkin pie.

I will go to borders this week and look at some un-cook books (which my friend Sunday and I will be making up- look for it!!) to see what I can do for holiday food prep. I have GOT to find a different name for it. it's not "cooking".

well, I'm excited 10 lbs, and hopefully I will keep on this amazing path! :)
health and blessings.

detox, day 6

Well, I don't know if I'm detoxing or I'm just stressed, but I've had a headache since about 11:00 this morning. I have also stayed even in weight today. I am hopeful for tomorrow, but this computer screen is killing me, so I will check in tomorrow.

hugs and blessings.

day 6

Today has been quite interesting. It started off yesterday with my stress level so high I wanted to kill something, but it's all in God's plan about my car, so... I don't have to worry about it, it's getting done.

I've lost another pound yesterday. as of this morning, I am down to 229! guys, that's 9 lbs in a total of 5 days. I've been warned about losing weight too fast, well I'm here to tell you that I am LOVING this, and I can't wait to lose even more. I should be in a 12 by Christmas, if I continue on this path. honestly I could be smaller but my 30 day goal is 215. I originally wanted 200 but realized that may be a little unfeasible considering it's only 30 days and 38 lbs? then again, with how fast I'm losing, it may just be accomplished!

so today I've had
an apple,
hand full of almonds,
1 full glass of green smoothie:
-large handfull of collard greens
-about a cup of frozen peaches,
-cup(ish) froz. strawberries
-1/2 cup(ish) of pineapple
2 cups(ish) of water. blend until smoothie.

and I'll be drinking more of that in a little while. I LOVED the taste, and I will go for mustard greens soon. I'm venturing out of spinach and found collards. Also, I looked at how much I'm eating and came to a conclusion: it looks like LOT of food, but it's really not. vegetables process through your body so much faster, and because I'm blending mine, the fiber is definitely there, but broken down so it goes through even faster than an unblended veggie would. So, I don't measure how much I'm eating, I just eyeball it and I'm eating more fruits and veggies than I normally would.

on a health note, I was able to be around my dad who smokes and I didn't have mega complications like I would have. I'm actually able to breathe, and I didn't need my inhaler. I'm finding it kind of nice.

so, 6-days, opinion is high for the raw food lifestyle, and that I like this, and I'm really enjoying eating raw. I currently have a slight headache but that is from stress because the back of my neck is tense.

health and blessings!

down even more!

So, I just did my evening weigh in, and I'm very excited. I am down total of 8 lbs!!! I also had some extra stress today. the transmission on my car went and I'm stressed out and stuck in DE because of it. Oh well, life goes on, and so does the weightloss!

I am down to 230, and hopefully by tomorrow morning, maybe I'll lose another pound.

so, today I ate:

2 apples
about a cup of almonds,
tons of dates,
and drank tons of water.

So, I guess I didn't have as much as I thought I did, but I wasn't hungry so I thought it was fine. I will go back on my juice feasting tomorrow. Will write down everything I eat tomorrow, and then post it here.

stay tuned, same raw time, same raw channel, same raw info! :)
health and blessings.

day 5

down ANOTHER 1/2 lb this morning. :D yeah, this is working for me. I've lost a total of 7 lbs in 4 days. This is the morning of day 5, and I feel FABULOUS! when I get home today, I'm going to make myself a HUGE batch of cookies for my dehydrator, and I'm going to make some more crackers over the next few days.

I've also picked up some cacao nibs, and I'm going to grind them into powder and make my almond milk chocoate, because I just can not get through it without flavor. Yeah, I added vanilla, but it's not enough. I need more, so I think to get the protein from the almonds, I'll add the cacao with some organic blue agave (dark is a little more full bodied).

I have 2 avacados at my house just WAITING for me to use them. I have to hit the grocery store to pick up more of them. I make quite a few things with them. it's like tofu, but unprocessed and can be made into a variety of recipes by adding different flavors and textures.

Well, I'm going to do some running around today. the kids are sick, so I probably won't be going to church as planned, but I will be hitting the dollar store and probably walmart or kmart. haven't decided.

health, and wish me luck!

Saturday, October 24, 2009

Okay, so I just weighed in at 231.5 lbs!!! 4 days ago I started out at 238 lbs. 6.5 pounds in 4 days. I am SO frigging excited about this!!!

I am trying to be objective, but seriously, with how fast and easily the weight is coming off, I am super jazzed about this.

My skin is glowing,
my eyes are brighter, and so are my teeth! (I think that may be coincidental, but what the heck. I'll attribute it to the raw eating)
my hair is softer,
and I have energy like there's no tomorrow!
I wake up perky and I sleep better.

I go to the bathroom more than I used to.
I need to plan ahead for my meals and what I may be interested in,
I have to plan around fresh food availability.

all in all, I'm happy with this so far- tomorrow will be day 5. can't wait! :D

raw on the run

Wow. Planning ahead is TOTALLY going to be your best friend if you're out and about. take a cooler with fresh veggies, or what I did this morning before my class was made myself a blenderful of smoothie that I took with me in a large coffee mug- you know the insulated kind that kept it cold.

My only was was that it was bigger, but according to the scale, I'm down even MORE! I will let you know when all is said and done but I'm on my second smoothie of the day.

I want to add different greens to my smoothies but I don't know what to add. I'm concerned about the taste of some of them, and there are some fruits and veggies that I just don't like. bananas are one of them. I would rather die than eat a banana. well, maybe not that extreme, but I seriously dislike the flavor, texture, and scent of banana. I have made fruit leathers (roll-ups) out of them masked with other flavors like tons of strawberry and blueberry, but I just can't get myself to actually eat one. I think I will start by adding 1/2 of one to a smoothie.

I'm also worried about the flavors of mustard greens, or collards etc. I love spinach but I'm getting a little tired of it. any suggestions?

day 4

Hot damn! I just woke up and weighed myself... 233! WOOHOO! I'm the incredible shrinking woman. :D

I didn't eat as well as I would have liked to yesterday. I was busy driving from my house to my parents' house, and currently it's a 5 hour trip, but I did damn near eat my body weight in apples! LOL. That's ok. I'm going to make myself a smoothie this morning, and then I'm off to my parenting class. I am taking an apple with me, (apples are big with me) and also taking extra water.

I will update everyone with any more changes later. :) I'm excited, and hope that you see that in just 3 days (because this is the very beginning of the 4th) I've dropped 5 lbs and have more energy than I've ever had.

It's important to note that I am 100% raw at this point. the experts say it's not good to do that, however I have had no side effects from it. Again, I will keep everyone updated, and thanks for reading with me this far! I'm really excited, and I've also made a decision. I'm going to start posting exactly what I eat. I will do that in my next blog because I haven't eaten anything today! :D

Okay, so health and blessings everyone.

Biblical reasoning for going RAW

So before anyone goes new age on me, I feel I need to tell you: I'm a Christian. I fully believe in Christ and his sacrifice so I may have new life, however I don't tell you this to push it down your throat I tell you this to give you some background on why I believe this is healthy.

before the flood, we were vegetarians. We ate what came from the earth and it nourished our bodies. We ate good things, and in the bible people were living for hundreds of years. We started eating meat and the life expectancy declined drastically.

coincidental? maybe. likely to be coincidental? not really.

Here's a blog I wrote back in May when I did this the first time:

Food is the focal point of my life for the past 30 years, and it will continue to be, but I'm trying to find out what God's plan for my food intake is.

Well, the only place I know to look for God's info is in His word, so I went back to the bible. Yes, we are allowed to eat animals, and there's even a God-approved way to prepare them from slaughter to the way they're eaten, however I am looking further back, because meat was given to us after the flood which was of course after the fall from God's grace and provision.

So, back in God's perfect plan for us, God gave us every plant that yielded seed on teh face of the earth and every tree with seed in it's fruit for food, according to Genesis 1:29. Now, back then it was just Adam and Eve, and teflon pans or 18/10 stainless steel wasn't readily available. They didn't eat the flesh of animals (which, btw, I'm not against this- I am just making a personal choice on NOT eating it. It has nothing to do with morals because I think that meat is a GREAT source of protein, and certain ones like chicken, turkey and bison (super yum!) are fabulous sources of proteins and vitamins, and I still think PETA is one of this country's biggest douche bag propaganda companies out there) because they had all sorts of amazing fruits and vegetables. Neither did they cook them to an oblivion and make a mush of the fresh broccoli, or sauteeing vegetables until they chemically alter because of the heat to create a sugary mess in your body. PLEASE note, this is for food only, no where in the bible (to my knowledge) does it talk about "natural" drugs i.e. pot or opium. He DID give us all plants and herbs for medicine, but that's another blog.

The coolest thing is after God gave us all of those fruits and veggies that are superpacked with vitamins, minerals, and flavor, he saw that it was good. As in, how he planned that we should live. We were the ones who screwed everything up.

What is food? Food is fuel for our bodies. It's not just a necessity, it's a pleasure. We use all of our senses to dine. Taste is obviously first and foremost on the list and so is texture. After all, if it tastes great but feels like a bowl of snot, you're not going to eat it. However if it has the best mouth-feel ever but tastes like cardboard- will you wrap your lips around it more than twice? me neither. Now, smell makes you taste food more. It actually helps you achieve more taste, and when it comes to sight- go to a restaurant. no, not anwhere it can be supersized, but somehwere with a table with linens instead of a McScrub-down. seriously, sight is your first enounter with food. Seriously, if fast food restaurants advertized what their burgers actually looked like when served, no one would EVER eat there! and lastly, we have sound. The crunch of fresh lettuce, or the sound of pure water being poured, you incorporate these into your food rituals.

Where do the FDA standards come into play? We all know that this government tries their hardest to determine where we stand, and how we should eat, regulating what we put into our bodies, and demanding allegiance to them in our school systems via the food pyramid (which I find funny- recently changed. huh. apparently not everyone fits into their little mold, huh?) The FDA likes to cram us all into a neat little mold that everyone should fit into to make us uniform people. we eat 3 square meals a day, adn that should be plenty, well guess what- it's not! My children and I are grazers. I'd rather eat a little all day, than sit down and snarf food until I'm busting a gut 2 or 3 times a day. Who wants to live like that?! I'd rather eat when I'm hungry, and stop when I'm not.

But, I'll be doing more research into what God says is appropriate, but as of right now, bring on the raw fruits and veggies. :D I'm actually looking forward to it! I want to taste what the food tastes like without my interference. I also want to taste what recipes I can come up with without having to cook. (how awesome is that?!)

Thanks for reading. I'll update this soon.

I've been finding scripture that pertains to my body and how I should keep it healthy to enhance my relationship with God. I think that's why some vegans are more "spiritual" than others; becuase they get the relationship between themselves and their creator, some just deny their real creator.

here are some scriptures that I have found, and if you find any, please let me know.

"You realize, don't you, that you are the temple of God, and God Himself is present in you? No one will get by with vandalizing God's temple, you can be sure of that. God's temple is sacred-- and you, remember, are that temple."

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (The Message)

Jeremiah 17:14 (Amplified Bible)

14Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise.

Raw day 3

ROFLMAO, I'm down ANOTHER pound! I weighed in at 235 this morning and I'm hyper jazzedabout it!!! While I didn't necessarily spring out of bed this morning, I was on the phone with my bff until midnight last night. (yes, I still say bff!) I did however get up at 7:30 and am fully awake, not groggy and tired like I normally am, you know- the morning zombie in search of coffee.

I haven't had coffee in 3 days and I'm more awake now than I "normally" am. :) So far, I see mega benefits of raw food. I'm getting hungry so I'm going to make myself a smoothie. I think I'm going to add broccoli. I'm also going to make myself a cacao sauce and fill some of my raspberries and blackberries with it. makes a yummy dessert or a snack anytime and guess what- good for you!

Now, when I make my smoothies, I just add everything. I don't worry about what fruits go with what, if i like the taste, I add it. I also add goji berries. I don't particularly like them, but I soaked them and I put them in the shake anyway. their flavor gets covered up, but that's just me. Some people like them dehydrated and chewy.

I think I'm going to put some chocolate in my shake today. Give me a different flavor.

health and blessings.

sweet tooth kicking my butt...

I am SO proud of myself! today is the 2nd day of eating nothing but raw fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds and grains and I have to say- I'm kicking some serious butt at it!

I made myself some dinner... kind of. I made this tahini honey thing, kind of like raw halva, but I added cacao powder, soaked and dehydrated almonds (will post about that tomorrow) and some raw coconut and ate it with another apple. not bad. I'm full, and I still have an even-keel energy. It's 8:00 here and I feel up to doing a few loads of laundry, and after the dishwasher is done, probably run another load. I've been slacking a little bit on that, what with packing and everything.

Tomorrow I'm going to be juice feasting until the evening again, but I'm adding more water to my diet. I've been getting not nearly as much as I should. Literally I've been drinking maybe 4 cups of water a day, and that's not enough for my body so I will be sure to drink more.

Let's see... oh yeah. my sweet tooth. It's killing me. seriously, I want to make some macaroons or something but I'm not going to. I will make a raw version that is completely healthy if I feel up to it, but frankly right now... not so much. I'm going to try to make a dip tomorrow. I have to soak my cashews overnight so that's why I'm waiting. hmmm..... I'll try my hand at a ranch dressing. :D dip my carrots into... should be interesting.

well, have chores to do, so I'll catch up with you tomorrow. wish me luck for day 3!!

health and blessings!

day 2 supplemental

So, I climbed back on the scale. I'm doing this a few times a day. No, not out of obsession, I'm doing it out of tracking what times of day I gain the most weight, albeit water weight, but also watching my eating habits in and around those times.

ready for this???

I've lost 2 1/2 lbs since yesterday morning. HOW FRIGGING AWESOME IS THAT?!?!?! I'm down to 236 and it will keep dropping, because I'm going to keep doing the same damned thing. Biggest Loser my ass, you have NOTHING on me!! hahahahahahaha.

okay, well now I'm back to sanity so I guess now is a good time as any to list my goals and where I want to go with this 30 day challenge.

at the rate I'm losing weight, I will put my goal for the next 29 days to be at 199. I would like to weigh 199 by November 22nd. it's a Sunday, so we'll see. i would also like to slip on my skinnier jeans on without having to lie down on the bed.

I will also be adding exercise to this regimine. Now, you may say that doing that would skew the experiment. Well, not really. I've done exercise on SAD (standard American diet) before, and I've seen results, but I still felt like crap. I haven't had the 3:00 blahs in 2 days since I started this, and my headache has been considerably less.

All in all, I think I'm doing much better. I drive up to Delaware tomorrow for my parenting classes for my divorce, adn yes, I will be packing my blender and food with me. and I will be eating strictly raw while I'm there. the challenge for it will be there, but I can do it.

So, the kids (even in their sick state) have been begging me for the smoothies I've been drinking and while some of them look like composted dog poop, they have tasted outstanding. I have been able to get amazing amounts of greens into their diet, being masked by fruit- and if you think that the V8 fusion is the same, you're wrong. there's NO sweeteners in mine, and they are getting the fiber from the fruit as well, so no artificial chemicals here. :)

Another thing I've been doing is eating when I'm hungry and stopping when I'm not. Now this sounds like common sense, but please trust me when I tell you that when you've been eating SAD for years, you can't always tell when you're full because your addiction to the cooked food texture, flavor and chemical releases it gives you blocks out the feeling until it's too late. Don't believe me? Thanksgiving dinner. -enough said.

So, It's time to make another smoothie and I will definitely let you know how it is later. :D health and blessings.

OH! before I go, here's a picture of my before... sort of. It's what I look like now, but it's not taken right today. Wow. It's scary putting this sort of thing out there.

Sad to Raw day 2

1/2 lb. down. Don't know if that's a major accomplishment, but I'm happy with it. Please keep in mind that I haven't done anything other than wake up, put my contacts in, come downstairs and get on the scale.

I'm starting to drink some water. I've promised myself that I was going to start drinking like 2 cups as soon as I woke up. After all- for the past 8 or so hours I didn't drink anything, so 2 cups sounds good for a starter.

I woke up without the customary grogginess today. pretty nice feeling. My goal for today is have an apple and do some juice feasting. Juice feasting is where you eat tons of green smoothies. I will be sucking down green smoothies today.

I will keep you updated. :)

day 1 complete.

I'm not hungry at all, and I completed the first day. I'm rather excited about it. I was able to complete today without being hungry or too many cravings. I did have a major cookie craving earlier today, but i was able to abate that. The other time I had a craving, I had made my daughter (who is sick) some cinnamon toast. It took all I had to fight that one. that's because it was in my face, and I could have had a bite had I wanted to, but I just kept reminding myself that my body is creating millions of cells and I want them to be made from living food.

so far, so good.

1 day down, 29 to go. I will be weighing myself every morning to see if there is any change in the weight in the AM. hopeful, but not expecting anything. today is only the first day. Thanks for reading and sticking with me so far. I know it's just the 1st day, 3 blogs today, but still you could have been doing other things, but you chose to spend time with me, so I thank you. :)

health and blessings,
Ruby Rose the Pin Up Princess

recipes for today.

I am LOVING this. my skin looks plump right now. must be all the water I'm drinking. It's not yet 1 at the time I'm writing this sentence, but I've had so much to eat today! I've had a small granny smith apple, and about 3 cups of various smoothies.

Strawberry Raspberry Green smoothie:
(all measurements approximate. I didn't measure, but it was good)
5 ice cubes,
hand full of raw spinach (washed)
6 strawberries (washed)
10 raspberries (washed)
5 frozen strawberries
tablespoon of dark agave nectar.
about 1/2 cup of water.

blend, drink while cold. Don't sweat the spinach, you CAN'T taste it! Seriously, it's delicious, and my 3 year old son begged me for more.

so I made him this:
strawberry mango green smoothie.
same measurements, as above but use frozen mango chunks instead of raspberries, and cut back on your fresh strawberries. blend, drink, enjoy, get healthier.

Now my daughter is sick and she asked for a smoothie and i made her one with peach and spinach. it was good. I'm going to be making a raw taco here in a little bit for lunch. I can't wait. I love tacos.

I am fighting a cookie craving right now. I DESPERATELY want a cookie, but I'm going to fight against it and make myself a chocolate mousse or something. Just something to get my mind off of the sugar that my body thinks it wants.

I've also made today (which will take some time) some flax seed crackers (in the dehydrator) some cashew cream "cheese", and I'm also in the process of soaking some goji berries and some almonds (different containers). My dehydrator is my best friend, and I'll be making some apple chips in a little while, pretty much overnight, but I'll sprinkle them with cinnamon before I put them on the trays.

If you have a raw recipe you want to share, definitely put it in my comments section. I'll post later on my blog about the tacos and how I made them. :) I'm not 100% raw yet but I'm getting there.

Raw food day 1.

WOOHOO! I've made a decision, and I've put myself on a challenge. Now, before I start saying anything, or encouraging you to do the same please note that I am NOT under the care of a physician while I do this, this is just me experimenting on me.

Now, I've started a 30 day challenge. Starting today, I am eating nothing but raw food. The main staples of this diet are seeds, nuts, grains, fruits and veggies. No meat, no dairy, no eggs. Now it should be noted here, that I have no problems eating animals, and I feel that they were put on this earth to help us, so please don't go all psycho on me about how eating meat is murder, or how vegans rule and why. I'm not strictly a vegetarian, as I totally enjoy eating several different types of meat, I'm just trying something.

So, why I'm doing this: Well, I have several reasons. 1- I went on raw foods a few months ago, and I've NEVER in my life felt better. My asthma cleared up for the most part, my skin glowed in that pregnancy glow that we only get when we're pregnant, and my hair and nails were super healthy. I didn't ache, I lost weight, I stood taller, and every system worked properly (if you get my drift) as it should.

Now, before you guys say "oh well, you have the time to eat like that" let me tell you a little about my life.

I am a hardworking mother of two, I own a business, and I'm in the process of a divorce- all are major stress factors, and to top it off, I'm packing up a house to move 15 hours away from my current house, and am homeschooling my oldest child who is 5. My youngest is 3, so no I barely have time to sit down to pee, let alone take care of myself, HOWEVER I will be for the next 30 days. I need to be my own mother and make sure that I'm getting what I need to be healthy. after all, if I'm not healthy, who will take care of my children?

I want to encourage you to write to me with any questions or thoughts, or especially encouragements! I can use all the help I can get, but even if I don't I'm doing it anyway. LOL.

Now the BIGGEST common question that is asked "where do you get your protein?"
Good question. the most usable source (so I'm told) of protein is in green leafy veggies. I am eating TONS of them, so I don't have to worry about it.

-isn't that expensive, buying all of those veggies?
no! I spent $153 on groceries yesterday, but that was for 2 weeks of food, and included some not-so-good foods for my kids. this challenge is just for me, but if you ate more vegetation, you would actually spend less. Think about this: which do you get more of- $5 worth of apples or $5 worth of meat?

So here's the embarrassing part for me. My starting weight. As of this morning, I weighed in at 238. this is the heaviest I've EVER been, and it's because I haven't been taking care of myself. I've allowed myself to stress eat and what I chose was sugary not-so-good for you chow. Now, ask anyone who knows me, I don't eat massive quantities of food, in fact I've been known to skip meals altogether because I just haven't been hungry. It sounds absurd but it's true. I don't know my measurements but I will get them soon and write them down, as well as take a few pictures.

I am also going to keep track of my moods, and my abilities, as well as my medication intake (i.e. inhaler) also, if it goes well for me I'll be expanding my experiment. :)

Health and blessings everyone!!
